Excursion Health started with a spreadsheet and a frustrating realization.

While researching the travel nursing industry, one thing kept coming up: the pay structure is genuinely confusing — and almost nobody was explaining it clearly. Two contracts advertising the same weekly rate could put vastly different amounts in a nurse's pocket depending on stipend breakdowns, housing arrangements, tax home status, and overtime policies. And the people explaining these differences? Usually recruiters with a financial incentive to steer the conversation.

The more we dug in, the worse it got. Facebook groups were full of conflicting advice. Blog posts repeated the same surface-level tips. Nurses were making decisions worth tens of thousands of dollars based on incomplete information and well-meaning but wrong guidance from strangers online.

So we built a pay calculator. Then a tax home quiz. Then a cost-of-living comparison tool. Each one was designed to answer a specific question that travel nurses were already asking — just with better data and a clearer interface than anything else available.
